Our Projects
Here at Wise Owls Initiative, we recognize the need for our elderly population to experience meaningful engagement while learning, and while also having an opportunity to express their emotional needs. That's why we've developed several volunteer opportunities designed to reach those goals.

Card Campaign
Spreading the Joy
Our amazing volunteers create or purchase beautiful cards to be distributed among the elderly. Many recruit their children and grandchildren, and the senior citizens love them!
Cards are delivered to residents in long term care facilities, Meals on Wheels, and to seniors who are home bound, if we know the address.
Instructions:
Envelopes are not necessary, but volunteers should include an uplifting message, and sign their name. Cards should not be addressed to one person in particular. instead, they should begin with something like "Hello friend," "Hello," "Dear friend," etc.
When making or signing a large amount of cards, we find it helpful to use rubber stamps, pasting typed messages, using stickers, etc. Questions? Please contact us so that we can help.
Owl Pals
Tackling the Issue
Owl Pals are partnered with a senior citizen, and they become pen pals. They write to each other one to two times per month. This is a great activity for all age groups.
Contact us to be paired with a resident who would love to receive letters from you. We'll give you instructions on how to address the letter, give you some ideas as to what to write, and how to speak with senior citizens.
Planting Smiles
Making People Smile
This activity is so much fun! We provide the flower pots, soil and flowers, the markers to decorate the pots, and usually some kind of snack or treat. This is an excellent activity for senior citizens because it engages them, encourages social activity, and gives them an opportunity to nurture. This project is funded by donations made through our PayPal donation link.

Community Education
Raising Awareness
We see every challenge as an opportunity, and this initiative helps us to bring awareness to issues that affect the elderly. We are working to shed light on these topics. Want to partner with us? Our most recent Community Education Project was in partnership with the Williamson County Cities and Health District MRC, where we presented information on emergency preparedness to seniors at Northstar, Georgetown, a 55+ active living community.
Adopt a Grandparent
Show Them You Care
Would you like to "adopt" a grandparent? You will be matched with a resident, and agree to provide periodic cards, letters, or even small gifts, if you like. Suggestions would be birthday cards and major holidays, and then letters to fill in between holidays and events. Gift giving is at your discretion, and if needed, specifics about your grandparent's favorite colors, needs, etc. will be provided.
Visiting your "grandparent" is an option, and will need to be arranged with the facility that you are assigned to . We will let you know all of the details once you're paired with a resident, and we will provide instructions for you.

We pour 90% of generated funds from monetary donations directly toward our charity, which includes purchasing personal and group enrichment activities to be gifted to residents, cards and card making supplies, items of special request from facilities to engage their residents, and other materials to create and provide for special services for the elders.
The remaining 10% is dedicated toward furthering our cause by helping to off-set the costs of operation and administrative fees, as well as fundraising.
